VIREAD® for the Treatment
of Chronic Hepatitis B in Adults

Welcome to VIREAD.com (VEER ee ad). This website will tell you about VIREAD (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate), a medicine used to treat chronic hepatitis B in adults age 18 years and older. VIREAD works by interfering with the normal working of an enzyme (HBV DNA polymerase) that is essential for the hepatitis B virus (HBV) to reproduce itself. VIREAD may help lower the amount of hepatitis B virus in your body by lowering the ability of the virus to multiply and infect new liver cells.1

VIREAD has also been used since 2001 as a treatment for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection in adults age 18 years and older. VIREAD is always used in combination with other anti-HIV-1 medicines to treat people with HIV-1 infection.1

Currently, 350,000 people are taking VIREAD or other drugs containing tenofovir disoproxil fumarate for HIV-1.2

The usual dose of VIREAD is one 300-mg tablet once a day. If you have kidney problems, your doctor may recommend that you take VIREAD less often.1

Information on this website is also available in Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese. Please click on the respective links above.

Please read the full indication and the Important Safety Information below, including information on lactic acidosis, serious liver problems, and flare-ups of hepatitis B virus (HBV), and the FDA-Approved Patient Labeling located at the top this page.
